It was a star studded field that contested the Valspar Championship from innisbrook resort in palm harbour , Florida. With the likes of Rory Mcilroy, Jorden Spieth and Tiger Woods to mention a few all looking to get there game in shape with the masters just around the corner.
But it was the English man Paul Casey who took the Valspar Trophy with a final round 65 to claim his first victory on the PGA tour in 9 years and move up to world number 12. Holding back tears Casey said i’ve been working so hard on my game my putting in particular taking just 21 putts in his final round.
With Spieth and Mcilroy both missing the cut all eyes where on Tiger Woods on the final day who was just one shot behind the lead and playing in only his fourth PGA tour event since returning from back surgery.
Tiger unfortunately just couldn’t get the putter going leaving him needing to birdie the last to force a play off which he couldn’t manage. Patrick Reed also put up a valiant fight starting with an eagle early and putting himself right in contention only to have a putt come back down to him on the 18th to leave him on nine under and tied for second alongside Tiger.
I felt very comfortable out there said Tiger Woods and I feel my game is in really good shape going into one of my favourite tournaments the Arnold palmer invitational at bay hill. Tiger Woods saw his odds slashed to 10-1 to win the up and coming masters at the Augusta national second favourite behind dustin Johnson, who had to miss last years tournament due to a freak accident that saw him slip down some stairs at his rented house and injure his back.
Tiger Woods will be aiming four his fifth green jacket at this years masters having won his first way back in 1997 receiving his green jacket of sir Nick Faldo
The masters at Augusta national will begin on Thursday 5th April with Sergio Garcia the defending champion.
